NOMA Gave Us the Skills to Change Ourselves — So Our Loved One Could Change Too

Before finding NOMA, Jenny P.'s family didn't know where to turn. Here's how support, guidance, and community helped them navigate addiction — and find their way to the other side.

The following is a guest story submitted by Jenny P., a NOMA family member. Her loved one has been in recovery for two years.

Not One More Alabama helped our family during a very chaotic time in our lives, when our loved one was struggling with substance use disorder.

Before finding NOMA, it was difficult to know how to help, or where to turn. NOMA provided guidance to us as parents on how to navigate the world of addiction before it destroyed us emotionally — and destroyed our loved one’s life.

Addiction holds entire families captive to volatile relationships, fear, guilt, heartbreak, pain, exhaustion. And deep down, we knew we couldn’t force our loved one to change. NOMA gave us the skills we needed to first change ourselves, so we, in turn, could allow our loved one to change.

Thankfully, our loved one sought help, entered a recovery program, received specialized therapies, joined a sober community, and has remained sober for two years. We are so grateful to Not One More Alabama for the support they provide to families facing the difficult journey of addiction.
